Tinymsg Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 4, 2026

1. Overview

Tinymsg is a tool for transferring text and files over a WiFi local network. We take your privacy seriously: the text and files you transfer are never collected, uploaded, or stored by us. All transfers take place within your local network — data never leaves the LAN. No registration, no login, no cloud service, no analytics SDKs.

One difference worth noting: installs from Google Play display third-party ads (Google AdMob) to keep the app free — see section 7, "Advertising & Third-Party Services". The direct-install (APK) version contains no ad SDK and displays no ads at all.

2. Information We Process

Except for the advertising SDK described in section 7, this app does not collect any personal identity information, device identifiers, location data, or usage analytics. Content such as your app list, photos, and files is only passed directly between devices on your local network when you actively choose to send it — never through any server.

3. Permissions

This app requests the following permissions, solely to implement its core features:

1. Network (INTERNET / ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE / ACCESS_WIFI_STATE / CHANGE_WIFI_MULTICAST_STATE): Used to run the HTTP/WebSocket service on this device and discover devices on the same WiFi, so that other devices (PC browsers, other phones) can connect and transfer files and text. Network requests occur only within the local network.

2. Foreground service (FOREGROUND_SERVICE / FOREGROUND_SERVICE_DATA_SYNC): Keeps the transfer service running in the background so you can still receive files while the app is minimized. A persistent notification is shown; you can stop the service at any time via the "Close" button on the notification.

3. Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS): Used to display the persistent foreground-service notification and transfer status.

4. Clipboard access: Only when you enable "Auto copy" in a 1-to-1 session will the app write text received from the other device to the system clipboard so you can paste it directly. We never read or upload your other clipboard contents.

5. Install apps (REQUEST_INSTALL_PACKAGES): When you tap an APK file received in a chat, this permission lets the app invoke the system installer. A system confirmation dialog is always shown, and whether to install is entirely your decision.

6. App list (QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES): Used only for the "Send apps" feature — the app picker lists installed apps so you can select and send their APK files to other devices on the LAN. The app list is processed locally on your device and never uploaded or leaves your device.

7. Photos & media (system Photo Picker): Uses the system photo picker (native on Android 13+, no storage permission required) to read only the photos or videos you explicitly select for sending. This app does not access your media library in the background.

8. Folder access (system document picker): Uses the system SAF directory picker to read files in the folder you actively select (subfolders are not included). Only the directory you choose is read; nothing else is accessed.

4. File & Data Transfer

Files, text, and APKs you transfer with this app pass directly between devices on your local network and never touch any third-party server. Transfers occur only over the LAN; we recommend using trusted networks. Received files are cached in the app's private cache directory, and you can clear the entire file cache at any time via "History → Clear".

5. Data Storage & Retention

Message history is stored in the app's private storage for the "History" feature; file caches are stored in the app's cache directory. Both can be completely cleared via "History → Clear". Clearing is irreversible, so please confirm before doing so.

6. Minors

This app is not directed at minors and does not collect any age-related information. If used by minors, please do so under the guidance of a parent or guardian.

7. Advertising & Third-Party Services (Google Play builds only)

To keep the app free, Tinymsg installed from Google Play displays banner ads served by Google AdMob. The direct-install (APK) version contains no ad SDK and displays no ads.

AdMob may collect and process the following data for ad delivery and frequency capping: advertising ID, IP address, device information, and app activity. This data is handled by Google under its own privacy policy; we cannot access or control it.

You can reset or delete your advertising ID at any time in your device's system settings, or enable "Opt out of Ads Personalization" to limit personalized ads.

If you prefer no ads at all, you can permanently remove them with a one-time purchase via "About → Remove ads" in the app. The entitlement is tied to your Google account and is restored automatically after switching devices or reinstalling.

Important: advertising is the only part of the app that communicates with a third party (Google). The text, files, and photos you transfer are still passed directly only between devices on your local network — never sent to Google or any advertising service.

8. Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, we will update this page in the app and revise the date at the top. Continued use of the app constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
